General Program Information
The First Tee of Atlanta teaches life skills and golf to children ages 8 to 17 years old. Membership is open to youth throughout metropolitan Atlanta on a first come, first served basis. Most participants attend classes held on Saturdays, at one of 6 Program Locations.
Golf training spans introductory to advanced level. The life skill curriculum includes training on interpersonal, self-management and goal setting skills. Instructors teach golf and life skills in a seamless fashion. Training is conducted on the range and golf course. (Please see below for Junior Access Policies.) Children do not have to own golf clubs to participate in the program. A nominal fee of $75 is charged for registration. All new participants must begin at PLAYer level, regardless of golf ability. Participants can advance from PLAYer to ACE level based on their performance and on certification tests and length of time in the program.
While golf is a major draw for participants and their families, it is important to note that the focus of The First Tee of Atlanta is to help young people develop life skills that lead them to adopt the Nine Core Values (Honesty, Integrity, Judgment, Perseverance, Courtesy, Confidence, Sportsmanship, Respect, and Responsibility). Children are taught to apply the skills in all aspects of their lives (in school, at home, and in the community).
